Household Products to
Use for Mold Removal
Larger, more advanced mold infestations may require calling in professional
mold remediators, but if you are lucky enough to only be up against a small
one (under ten square feet), all you may need are some household products
and a little elbow grease. There are some exceptions to this depending on the
type of material that is contaminated by the mold.
If you are working with a hard, non-porous surface like tile, then any of the
household cleaning solutions shown below in our graphic should do the trick.
If mold has contaminated porous materials like unfinished wood, fabric, drywall,
or carpet, then the below cleaning solutions should not be used and are actually
unnecessary because you will likely have to throw those materials away.
All of the solutions described below include products commonly found in the
home, including hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, ammonia, bleach, tea tree
oil, vinegar, liquid soap, and the common denominator, water. Some things that
you will need when trying any of the homemade solutions is one or more empty
spray bottle, a sponge or scrubbing cloth, and protective cleaning gloves.
Something very important to note is that you should NEVER mix ammonia and
bleach. It can create toxic fumes and become very dangerous. Here are some
household products to use for your mold removal project.
